Joshua M. Rosenthal was born in Melbourne, Australia surrounded by his family’s significant Australian art collection. Growing up, he was surrounded by works from such artists as John Perceval, Charles Blackman, Fred Williams, Brett Whitely, and Roy DeMaistre among others, all who left an impressionable influence on him.
Joshua began his art education at Wesley College in Melbourne where he was distinguished with the Art Award for Excellence and graduated with the highest mark in the state in art. As a consequence he was invited to exhibit in Australia’s national public galleries – National Gallery of Victoria and the New South Wales Gallery – as part of a touring show. He went on to a degree at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney.
Joshua is greatly influenced by a variety of artists – from Francis Bacon, RJ Kitaj, Baldessari, and Thomaselli, as well as the German expressionists and the Dada movement.
Joshua currently lives in Los Angeles.
